 Jon White's Stakes Analysis

 About Jon White
(from HRTV.com)

Jon White knows a lot about racing. He's passionate about the game. Don't believe it? Go ahead, ask him a question. It's 3-5 he'll not only know the answer but why you asked the question.

Jon White brings to HRTV extensive experience as a television commentator at Santa Anita Park complimented by a familiarity with racing at tracks throughout North America, stemming from a 25-year career as a reporter, columnist, handicapper and chart caller with Daily Racing Form. He also has worked as a racing official at the highest level, serving in the capacity of steward at tracks in Washington state and Idaho. His background is further enriched by having spent one year as media relations manager at Lone Star Park in Texas, and by participating in the sport for three years as a licensed Thoroughbred owner.

Jon received the 2004 Mark Kaufman Media Award from the Washington Thoroughbred  Breeders' Association "for his excellence in reporting on the Washington Thoroughbred industry and Emerald Downs." On Dec. 28, 2003, he won a Santa Anita Pick Six that paid $45,981.20 with a $120 ticket that had been displayed on HRTV. Charlie Sigrast, an HRTV viewer in Chicago, also won $45,981.20 because he saw Jon's ticket on HRTV and decided to bet it.

When Jon White talks racing, people listen. So should you.

Laurel Summer Meeting 2010
The Mister Diz (Saturday, August 20)

 1. HEROS REWARD was victorious in this race last year. Granted, Heros Reward has lost six straight since his 2009 Mister Diz triumph, but all of those losses came in races not restricted to Maryland-breds. He definitely should appreciate a return to state-bred competition. In his most recent start, Heros Reward ran tenth in the Pennsylvania Governor's Cup at Penn National. The winner of that race, Chamberlain Bridge, just might win the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint this fall at Churchill Downs. (Eighth)

2. NOT FOR SILVER
takes a substantial drop in class after finishing ninth in the Grade II Smile Sprint Handicap at Calder's Summit of Speed on July 10. He should be taken very seriously. (Fourth)

3. AH DAY
continues toward the $1-million mark in career earnings. He comes into this race with a bankroll of $899,324. Ah Day has not been under silks since last March 19, but the 14-time winner sports a number of sharp workouts leading up to this race. (Seventh)

 The Jameela (Saturday, August 14)
 1. BLIND DATE drops in class after finishing sixth in the Grade III All Along Stakes at Colonial Downs for trainer Hamilton Smith. "I like everything about her," Smith said this week. "She is a good work horse and does everything pretty easy She is a very versatile filly who can go long or short and on either surface [turf or dirt]. So if the race should happen to come off the turf, it wouldn't bother her." (Seventh)

2. COLONY CLUB won a turf sprint May 7 at Pimlico, then ran second in a grass sprint June 19 at Monmouth Park. She has the credentials to do well with these. (Fourth)

3. SALES TAX ran third in the Dahlia Stakes on Laurel's turf course April 10, then finished seventh in a stakes race on Delaware's turf course June 19. Sales Tax, like Blind Date, hails from the Hamilton Smith barn. "Sales Tax is better than she looks on paper," Smith said. "She can run a little bit and I wouldn't be surprised if she beats Blind Luck. She has enough ability to do so if things go her way. She has had some bad luck. It seems like every time we get her into a race it rains and we have to scratch and wait for another race, which interrupts the training procedure." (Sixth)
