LAUREL, MD. 01-30-10---Live racing at Laurel Park was cancelled Saturday after the onset of heavy snowfall in the central-Maryland region. The decision was made 30 minutes prior to the 12:35 p.m. first post.
“We were originally expecting one to two inches but the forecast changed and now we anticipate four to six inches by 4 o’clock,” said Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas.
The nine-race card was scheduled to end at 4:55 p.m.
The cancellation means the elimination of the national Magna 5 wager, which had been slated to start with Laurel’s finale, the $70,000 Dancing Count Stakes.
Laurel Park racing secretary Georganne Hale reports the Dancing Count will be not be carded this year. Only six 3-year-olds were entered this afternoon.
Laurel Park will conduct live racing Wednesday, Feb. 3.
