Magna 5™ Concludes On A High Note
LAUREL, MD. 03-29-08---Magna Entertainment Corp. concluded its fifth season of the Magna 5™, the popular $2 pick five wager linking races from four major racetracks in an hour with a $500,000 guaranteed pool.
The final wager paid $6,174.20 each to 66 winners Saturday. A total of $525,773 was in the pool. Over nine weeks, the wager drew an average pool of $537,130 with 1,581 winning tickets paying a total of $111,499.20.
Arcata ($10) took the Harrison Johnson Handicap in a photo finish at Laurel. Hit and Hope ($12.40) sprinted to victory on the Santa Anita turf. Shes All Eltish ($10.80) was much the best in the Grade II Bonnie Miss Stakes at Gulfstream. Salute the Sarge ($8.20) pounced on his rivals in the San Miguel Stakes at Santa Anita. Big Brown ($5) stamped his ticket to the Kentucky Derby with an impressive score in the Grade I Florida Derby at Gulfstream.
The wager challenged bettors to pick the winners of five races at MEC tracks. Gulfstream Park proved to be the most difficult with an average win payout of $13.54, while Laurel Park winners delivered $12.04. Santa Anita Park was next in line with a payoff of $10.43. Golden Gate Fields was the easiest leg, as the winning price was $9.40.
