Maryland Racing Commission Withdraws Thoroughbred Signals From Rosecroft Raceway

BALTIMORE, 04-28-09---At its monthly meeting this afternoon at Pimlico Race Course, the Maryland Racing Commission voted to withdraw approval of Rosecroft Raceway to import thoroughbred signals, effective midnight, April 29.

The Prince George’s County (MD) harness track owes the Maryland thoroughbred industry $2 million since January 1 and indicated at today’s meeting that it is has no intention to compensate the Maryland Jockey Club (MJC), Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (MTHA) and Maryland Horse Breeders Association (MBHA).

In April 2006, a critical 15-year cross-breed revenue-sharing agreement was negotiated where Rosecroft would pay the thoroughbred industry $5.9 million annually for the right to receive and accept wagers on simulcast thoroughbred signals at the Ft. Washington track.
