Laurel, MD, Oct. 2-- HorseRacing TV (TM) (HRTV) will once again be on-site at Laurel Park to provide complete coverage of the 23rd annual Maryland Million Day this Saturday, Oct. 4.
HRTV's Scott Hazelton and Carolyn Conley, daily hosts for the network's "RaceDay America" show, will be at Laurel to anchor HRTV's full-day coverage of "Million Day," a popular, established staple on racing's Fall calendar. HRTV's comprehensive coverage of the event will commence with the opening race, which is slated for 12:15 p.m. ET/9:15 a.m. PT.
With a full day of action slated, Hazelton and Conley will offer the latest developments, and news, regarding the stakes-filled program. In addition, the duo will offer pre- and post-race analysis, as well as interviews with many key personalities surrounding Maryland Million Day.
"We're very pleased to again be involved in a wonderful day of racing," said Amy J. Zimmerman, executive producer for HRTV. "Maryland Million Ltd. and the Maryland Jockey Club always combine for a top-class event and we are pleased to bring it to fans around the country."
Maryland Million Day, dubbed "Maryland's Day at the Races," is the second biggest day of racing in the state, topped only by the prestigious Preakness Day in mid-May. The unique day, which has spawned similar formats at racetracks across the country, was created by the late, legendary sports broadcaster, and staunch racing advocate, Jim McKay, in 1986. This year's edition encompasses 12 stakes, for Maryland-sired horses, totalling nearly $1.7 million in purses.
A total of 152 horses have been pre-entered for Maryland Million Day, with nine races offering six-figure purses. The headline event, the $300,000 Maryland Classic, has drawn a possible field of eight, including defending champion, Evil Storm, as well as multiple stakes winners Five Steps and Cuba.
