LAUREL, MD. 10-04-08---Country Ridge Racing LLC’s He’s A Dixie Boy came from mid-pack to win the $30,000 Sprint Starter Handicap, the finale on the Maryland Million program.

Ridden by Luis Garcia, the son of Swear by Dixie came roaring down the stretch to grab the lead as they neared the finish line, winning by 1-1/2 lengths in 1.11.51 for the six furlong distance. Avonian finished second and Noble Nod was third.

     He’s A Dixie Boy paid $26.60 and led off a $186.40 exacta and a $2,189 triple.

Tim Schuh trains the winner. He said, “We saw we were eligible after we claimed him (in May at Churchill Downs for $15,000). We thought he looked good in this spot. The field fit him to a tee. It was a good claim but an even better win. We’ve got ten horses back in Lexington, Kentucky where we’re based. It was a ten hour trip, but it was worth it.”

Garcia said, “I expected to be ten or twenty lengths back, but the horse broke much sharper than I thought, so instead of starting my move at the 3/8ths pole, I waited until later in the race because I wanted to make sure he would have enough to get there and he did.”

He’s A Dixie Boy was bred in Maryland by Donald McClinton.
