Graded Winners Among 132 Maryland Hall of Fame Day Stakes Noms

Five Stakes Worth $500,000 in Purses Saturday, Nov. 10
 
LAUREL, MD – Graded-stakes winners Doctor Mounty, Imperative, Just Call Kenny, Name Changer, Golden Brown and Something Awesome are among 132 horses nominated to five stakes worth $500,000 in purses on the Maryland Hall of Fame Day program Saturday, Nov. 10 at Laurel Park.
 
Most popular among horsemen was the Richard W. Small for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles which drew 35 nominees led by Doctor Mounty, winner of the BWI Turf Cup (G3) Sept. 29 on Laurel’s world-class turf course; 2017 Charles Town Classic (G2) winner Imperative; 2017 Iselin (G3) winner Just Call Kenny; and Name Changer, winner of the 1 1/8-mile Monmouth Cup (G3) July 29.
 
Also prominent among Small nominees are 2018 Charles Town Classic and General George (G3) winner Something Awesome, unraced since finishing eighth as the favorite in the Pimlico Special (G3) May 18; multiple stakes winners Bonus Points, the 2017 Maryland Million Classic winner unable to defend his title last month, Talk Show Man and Grasshoppin; stakes winner Fellowship, an earner of $751,314 in 32 career starts; and Runnin’toluvya, a winner of six straight races at his home base of Charles Town.
 
Juveniles will be in the spotlight in the $100,000 James F. Lewis III for 2-year-olds and $100,000 Smart Halo for 2-year-old fillies, both at six furlongs. Topping 28 nominations for the Lewis is undefeated Our Braintrust, three-quarter-length winner of the Tremont Stakes June 8 in his second and most recent start for Laurel-based trainer Cal Lynch. Also nominated are Maryland Million Nursery winner Follow the Dog and the Larry Rivelli-trained pair of multiple stakes winners Dugout and Big Drink of Water, a winner of her last four races.
 
Leading the way among 25 Smart Halo nominees are Maryland Million Lassie winner My Star Potential; graded-stakes placed Congrats Gal, third in the Schuylerville (G3), and Guacamole, third in the Adirondack (G2), both at Saratoga; Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes winner Into Trouble and Our Super Freak, a winner of two straight by 9 ¼ combined lengths.
 
Sophomores will get their turn in the $100,000 City of Laurel for 3-year-olds and $100,000 Safely Kept for fillies, each at seven furlongs. Golden Brown, winner of the Kent (G3) on turf July 14, and stakes winners Navy Commander, Old Time Revival and Smooth B top 23 nominees to the City of Laurel, while the Safely Kept attracted 24 nominations including multiple stakes winner Bronx Beauty; undefeated Dream Pauline, a daughter of Grade 1 winners Tapit and Dream Rush; graded-stakes placed In the Mood and Indy Union; and a pair of Linda Rice-trained multiple stakes winners – Split Time and two-time Grade 3-placed Sower.
 
Maryland-bred Safely Kept had 24 wins, 22 in stakes, and nearly $2.2 million in purse earnings from 32 career starts from 1988-91. Trained by Alan Goldberg, she was inducted into the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in 2011.
