Jockey Russell Returns To Action

LAUREL, MD., 07/31/15 – Jockey Sheldon Russell returned to the saddle Friday afternoon at Laurel Park after missing nearly three months with multiple punctures in his lungs due to broken ribs sustained in a fall April 25 at Pimlico.

Russell, who earned his 1,000th career victory earlier this year and was the leading rider at all three Maryland meets in 2011, finished third in his first race back aboard Another Seven in the fourth race during Laurel’s twilight program.

“It’s been a long three months,” Russell said. “I tried to come back after two months but I needed a little more time and I’m glad I waited. I’ve been working hard in the morning, galloping for [trainer] Tim Keefe and working as many as I can. Physically, I feel great and I look forward to finishing the meet on a good note.”
