Laurel’s Rainbow 6 Carryover Monday $14,000

Karamanos Wins Three, Vindictive Ways a Winner

LAUREL, MD – Laurel Park’s Rainbow 6 will have a carryover of $14,358.12 when racing resumes Monday afternoon.

First race post time for Monday’s nine-race program is 12:30 p.m. The Rainbow 6 begins in the fourth race with a $16,000 claimer.

Multiple winning tickets with six winners Sunday returned $1,891.38.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Vindictive Ways Breaks Maiden for Abbott

Vindictive Ways, a 2-year-old filly by Broken Vow co-owned and trained by Francis ‘Tres’ Abbott III, broke her maiden at third asking Sunday against a competitive group of fillies.

Purchased for $45,000 at last October’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearling Sale, Vindictive Ways won by 2 3/4 lengths while covering a good (sealed) mile track in 1:40.56. Forest Boyce was on board. Fox Hill Farms Forever, who sold for $175,000 as a yearling, was second while Sagamore Farm’s Scary Not Scared, a $350,000 yearling, was third.

After finishing sixth in her debut at Laurel Sept. 17 under Boyce, Vindictive Ways finished second at Parx Oct. 10. In her third try at a mile Sunday, Vindictive Ways found the winner’s circle.

“I knew it was a tough field,” Abbott said. “She’s kind of progressed with each start. Forest gave her a nice ride first time out, kind of by design, I know she was sixth beaten a couple lengths but the idea was to get her a little dirt in her face, and a little kick back, and let her run back. She continues to learn every time.

“She was one of the last ones in the Fasig-Tipton sale last October. I loved her and had to have her. The breeder said he’d stay in, and I took her a piece of her and my dad took a piece of her.”

Earlier in the afternoon, jockey Horacio Karamanos won three consecutive races. Karamanos won the second race with Sarah’s Treasure ($8.20), the third with Linkappleyard ($6.40) and the fourth with Steamy Hot ($9.40).
