Laurel Park Race Course Unveils New Logo
LAUREL, MD. 08-15-12---The Maryland Jockey Club today unveiled a new logo for Laurel Park Race Course. Laurel Park, which opened on October 2, 1911, hosts live thoroughbred horse racing annually from September until March and is the sister track to Pimlico Race Course, home of the world-famous Preakness Stakes.
“When we redesigned the Pimlico logo in February, we knew the Laurel Park logo deserved the same kind of reinvention,” said Maryland Jockey Club President Tom Chuckas.
Laurel Park is home to a cross section of events, including concerts, community fairs and barbeque competitions. The new logo embodies the excitement and variety of these events while giving a nod to the majesty of horse racing and its Maryland roots.
“The abstract horse represents the future of racing-respecting where we have been and looking forward to where we are going,” added Chuckas.
The current logo is replacing one that was designed almost 20 years ago.
The 2012 Laurel Park fall meeting opens Wednesday, September 5.
LAUREL FALL STAKES SCHEDULE UPDATE
The Laurel Park fall stakes schedule will feature two additional Maryland-bred stakes. The Geisha Stakes (November 22) and Jennings Handicap (December 1) have been added to the lineup that was originally announced July 17.
Other revisions include:
· Jameela Stakes moved from September 15 to opening day, September 5
· All Brandy Stakes transferred from September 8 to September 15
· Lady Dean Stakes will remain Safely Kept Stakes
· Purses for the Maryland-bred stakes will be $100,000 each
The Maryland Horse Breeders Association will provide $25,000 to $50,000 bonuses for Maryland-bred runners to 16 races, meaning the 34 fall stakes could be worth more than $4.1 million.
