LAUREL, MD – Winter meet-leading trainer Claudio Gonzalez continued his recent hot streak by sending out three winners Friday at Laurel Park, pushing his personal win streak to seven consecutive races.

Coming on the heels of a four-win day during the last live program March 17, Gonzalez scored with each of this first three starters Friday, sweeping the early daily double with Magic Stable’s Grand Oasis ($4) in Race 1 and Joseph Besecker’s Yesterdaysplan ($7.40) in Race 2.

Gonzalez also took Race 4 with Ioannis Korologos, Nick Trakadas and Rosemary Trakadas’ Great French Kiss ($2.60). His streak ended when Robert D. Bone’s In Arrears finished last of eight as the favorite after clipping heels in Race 6.

“It’s a good feeling. It’s really hard to win one race, never mind seven in a row. It’s fantastic,” Gonzalez said. “All the time I say you have to put the horses in the right spot. My owners know, when you put the horses in the right spot you have a big chance to win races.”

Maryland’s leading trainer in 2017 and 2018, Gonzalez has 39 wins at the winter meet, which runs through Sunday, March 31. Laurel’s 19-day spring meet runs April 5 to May 5.

Rainbow 6 Jackpot Carryover Swells to $28,275 for Saturday

The 20-cent Rainbow 6 jackpot carryover continues to grow after going unsolved Friday at Laurel Park, standing at $28,275.35 for Saturday’s nine-race program.

First race post time is 1:10 p.m.

A total of $12,047 was bet into the popular multi-race wager Friday, which began with a carryover of $24,420.27 from the last live program Sunday, March 22. Multiple tickets with all six winners were each worth $2,891.30.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Its current jackpot is the largest in Laurel’s Rainbow 6 since a $21,746 carryover following the Dec. 21, 2018 program. It was solved the following day for a payout of $31,286.30.

The Rainbow 6 spans Races 4-9 on Saturday, kicked off by an open entry-level $42,000 allowance for older females going about 1 1/16 miles led by 8-5 program favorite Aikenetta. Race 6 is a $40,000 maiden special weight for 3-year-olds at six furlongs with Fast Master, a second-time starter trained by Graham Motion, listed as the 3-1 morning-line favorite.

Midnight Games ($16.40) captured Friday’s finale to trigger carryovers in the 50-cent Late Pick 5 ($3,069.09) and $1 Super Hi-5 ($506.18) for Saturday. Tickets with four of five winners in Friday’s Pick 5 returned $37.20.
