McCarthy Returns to Action on Holiday Monday Card

Rainbow 6 Solved for $24,250 Payout
Super Hi-5 Carryover When Live Racing Resumes July 9

LAUREL, MD – After missing half of Saturday’s card and all of Sunday with a sore right knee, Maryland’s leading jockey Trevor McCarthy returned to ride on Monday’s special July 4 holiday program at Laurel Park.

Winner of Laurel’s winter-spring stand and the Preakness Meet at Pimlico to open 2016, McCarthy went winless on the 10-race program but finished second with three of his six mounts – Just Jack in the second race, Another Badge in the sixth and Super Fund in the seventh – and third with Wednesdays Only in the 10th.

“I feel very well,” McCarthy said. “Yesterday was not so good. I was very sore. I had trouble with my knee, my MCL. I strained it. I just put on a lot of ice and a lot of Tiger Balm and that did the job well. I wrapped it up and just rested it and this morning I was feeling pretty good so I said, ‘Why not give it a shot?’ and it paid off.”

McCarthy, 22, was injured after being unseated during the gallop out by 3-year-old filly Giddy Up following their victory in Saturday’s fourth race, falling into the path of runner-up Awake the Day and was hit on the right knee. He was treated on the scene by medical  personnel and walked off the track but missed four of his remaining five mounts on Saturday and was replaced on all nine Sunday.

Following a dark day Tuesday, McCarthy is scheduled to ride in five of nine races Wednesday at Delaware Park, including Conscription in the $50,000 Christiana Stakes for 3-year-old filles. He is also slated to be aboard popular Maryland-bred 10-year-old gelding Ben’s Cat in the Parx Dash (G3) July 9.

Rainbow 6 Solved for $24,250 Payout

One lucky bettor solved the 20-cent Rainbow 6 on Monday for a carryover jackpot payout of $24,250.10.

Two horses were live to take down the jackpot in the popular multi-race wager, which saw $9,925 wagered into the pool and included a carryover of $16,309.77. Sippy Cup ($12.60) was a runaway winner of the 10th race finale, completing the winning 6/7/1/6,8/2/9 combination that included dead-heat winners Bridge of Luck ($4.20) and Chateau de Vizille ($5.60) in the eighth.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

There will be a carryover of $3,391.66 in the $1 Super Hi-5 when live racing resumes on Saturday, July 9. First race post time is 1:25 p.m.

Notes: Jockey Victor Carrasco posted a riding triple aboard Intrepid Citizen ($11.40) in the fifth race, Runninginthevale ($12.20) in the seventh and Sippy Cup ($12.60) in the 10th. Feargal Lynch was first with All Fired Up ($3.40) in the fourth and She Rolls ($15.40) in the sixth, and Jevian Toledo won on Kitty Fredo ($10.40) in the third and Aimed ($8.20) in the ninth. Intrepid Citizen and Runninginthevale are both trained by Gary Capuano.
