LAUREL, MD – Live racing returns to Laurel Park Thursday with a July 4 holiday program featuring a 20-cent Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot of $30,667.24.

First race post time is 1:10 p.m.

No single bettor solved the Rainbow 6 Sunday, when $14,908 was bet into the popular multi-race wager on top of a $25,897.90 carryover from Saturday’s card. Multiple tickets with all six winners Sunday were each worth $298.08.

The carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 60 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners, while 40 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Thursday’s Rainbow 6 spans Races 4-9 and includes a $47,000 third-level optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up going 1 1/16 miles over the Exceller turf course that drew a field of seven led by two-time Maryland Million Turf winner Phlash Phelps and John Jones, a stakes winner on turf and dirt.

Laurel will continue live racing on a Thursday through Sunday schedule through the end of the 43-day summer meet Sunday, Aug. 18. There will be five stakes worth $400,000 in purses Sunday, July 14 led by the $100,000 Stormy Blues, a 5 ½-furlong turf sprint for 3-year-old fillies.

Fans are encouraged to celebrate Independence Day with Red, White & Brews, featuring food and drink specials, prizes, and raffles to benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund. From noon to 5 p.m. in the grandstand there will be $2 hot dogs and draft beer, $3 bottled beer and $5 double cheeseburgers, with ‘Merica Mules and snack specials also available. Prizes and swag bags from local breweries will be raffled off, with all proceeds going to benefit the PDJF.
