Winners Circle Partners VIII’s Daylight Ahead took the lead turning for home and sprinted clear down the stretch to win Friday’s featured eighth race, a $42,000 optional claiming allowance for 3-year-old fillies going six furlongs on the main track.

Sent off at 14-1, Daylight Ahead ($31.40) was making her third career start since March 1 for trainer Hugh McMahon. The winning time was 1:12.84 over a fast main track.

Front-running Wilma Lynn went straight for the lead and took the field through a quarter-mile in 23.33 seconds, a half in 46.99 and five furlongs in 59.56. Daylight Ahead, kept in the clear by Fergal Lynch racing three wide, collared the pacesetter at the top of the stretch and held off Friesan Fire to win.

Note: After winning three races on last Friday’s program, jockey Horacio Karamanos posted a riding double aboard Eleven Cent Fainor ($7.60) in the fifth race and Great Smoke ($3.40) in the sixth. Jockey Fergal Lynch also had two wins, sweeping the late double with Daylight Ahead ($31.40) in the eighth and Manando ($3.20) in the ninth.

Jockey Julien Pimentel, who had been out with a foot injury, returned to ride I’m In in the fifth race, finishing off the board. He was replaced on his remaining two mounts after complaining of soreness in his foot.
