Silver Screamer Gets Up In Time In Lady Baltimore Stakes

LAUREL, MD. 10-27-12---Michael Imperio & Donald W. Olson’s Silver Screamer showed that the Cozzene bloodline remains formidable on the turf as she galloped to victory in the $150,000 Lady Baltimore Stakes, one of six stakes on the Fall Festival of Racing card at Laurel Park.

Away alertly and on the hunt of frontrunner Laughing from her outside post, Silver Screamer carried Jose Espinoza over the 1-1/16 mile distance in 1:40.63 across the firm turf, winning by a neck.  Laughing held on to finish second, narrowly edging out Federation (GB), who was another neck behind at the wire.

“She is very professional and very relaxed,” said Espinoza. “She broke well and she just relaxed into stride. I didn’t have any trouble at all during the race and at the end of the race she could tell they were coming and she kicked in when I asked her to.”

The winner, who is trained by Rudy Rodriquez at Aqueduct, paid $10.40. The exacta returned $67.60 and the triple paid $133.40. She is now 3-of-6 this year, which also includes a Grade 3 score at Monmouth in June.

“She looked very comfortable,” said Rodriquez. “I think the time we gave her really made the difference as she came in fresh.”

Rodriguez is now 9-of-17 at Laurel Park during the fall meeting.
