Tiz He the One Cruises to Popular Win in Sunday Feature

Rainbow 6, Late Pick 5 Carryovers for Return of Live Racing Dec. 14

LAUREL, MD – Outrun for the early lead, Lady Sheila Stable and Iris Smith Stable’s Tiz He the One took command around the far turn and cruised through the stretch for a confident and popular 2 ½-length victory in Sunday’s feature at Laurel Park.

Jockey Trevor McCarthy never moved his hands as 2-5 favorite Tiz He the One ($2.80) galloped to his third straight win in the third-level $47,000 optional claimer for 3-year-olds and up. The winning time was 1:35.10 for one mile over a fast main track.

All three wins during his streak have come going a mile at Laurel since Tiz He the One returned from a four-month break between races and joined the barn of New York-based trainer Jeremiah Englehart.

A debut winner last January for previous trainer Linda Rice, Tiz He the One has earned all four of his career wins in five tries over Laurel’s main track. He broke sharply from the rail post and was in front before being passed to his outside by Saratoga Jack, who ran a quarter-mile in 24.44 seconds.

Saratoga Jack maintained a short lead through a half-mile in 47.01 but McCarthy had shifted Tiz He the One off the rail to press the front-runner two wide, and they met no resistance taking over after six furlongs went in 1:10.79. McCarthy sat chilly as Tiz He the One straightened for home in front and coasted to the line as Marengo Road chased in second, 4 ¾ lengths ahead of 76-1 long shot Final Prospect.

“He’s just doing really, really good. He’s on fire in the mornings, and in the afternoons he just loves what he does,” Englehart’s Laurel-based assistant and Bethesda, Md. native Natalia Lynch said. “This is my favorite horse, too, so it’s nice to see him take off like that.”

In a pair of $40,000 maiden special weights for 2-year-olds, Albert Frasetto’s homebred filly Her Royal Highness ($3.40) rallied outside to take the opener by a half-length as the 3-5 favorite in 1:39.54 for one mile while Danz a Rebel ($6.20), a son of Revolutionary trained and co-owned by Cal Lynch, came with a determined run to edge Going for Gold by a neck in the fourth race, running 5 ½ furlongs in 1:03.45.
