LAUREL, MD – Saturday’s Winter Carnival at Laurel Park, featuring the $250,000 Barbara Fritchie (G3) and $250,000 General George (G3), generated a total handle of $4.338 million, up 62 percent from last year with one less race.

Last year’s total handle on the day of the Winter Carnival was $2.668 million. In-state handle swelled 57.7 percent.

“First of all we want to thank the fans for coming out and the horsemen for supporting our program,” said Maryland Jockey Club President and General Manager Sal Sinatra. “I thought the racing office put together a strong program with full fields and competitive races, and our athletes put on an exciting afternoon of racing.”

The Winter Carnival was highlighted by Uncontested’s victory in the General George and Late Night Pow Wow wining her ninth consecutive race in the Barbara Fritchie.

Of the 10 races on the Winter Carnival program, five were won by women trainers – Dorothy Worton, Kelly Rubley, Katharine Voss, Ann Merryman and Jenn Patterson.
