CRAIG FRAVEL TO DEPART BREEDERS CUP TO JOIN THE STRONACH GROUP

LEXINGTON, Ky. (September 13, 2019) – Craig R. Fravel, Breeders’ Cup President and Chief Executive Officer since 2011, will depart the organization at the conclusion of this year’s Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Nov. 1-2. Fravel has been appointed as The Stronach Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Racing Operations.

LAUREL, MD – Phlash Phelps, a four-time turf stakes winner and the 2015 champion Maryland-bred grass horse for Ellen Charles’ Hillwood Stable and Laurel Park-based trainer Rodney Jenkins, has been retired.

The gelded 8-year-old son of Great Notion bred by Carol Kaye was winless in three 2019 starts, most recently finishing fifth by 2 ¼ lengths in the 5 ½-furlong Ben’s Cat Stakes July 14, beaten two heads for third.

LAUREL, MD – With no winning ticket in Friday’s Stronach 5, the popular wager with an industry-low 12-percent takeout will have a carryover of $96,906.44 on Friday, Sept. 13.

The carryover occurred when the 60-1 longshot Channeledslongshot won Gulfstream Park’s ninth race and the final leg of the Stronach 5 sequence and returned $141.40.

The sequence kicked off with Stroll Smokin ($11.20) winning Laurel Park’s eighth race. The entry of Midship Lady/More Or Less ($4.40) won the fourth leg at Laurel.
