Whiskey Romeo "Impressive" In James Lewis Stakes Victory

LAUREL, MD. 11-10-12---The gate opened, Whiskey Romeo shot to the lead and essentially, the inaugural running of the $125,000 James F. Lewis III Stakes at Laurel Park was over.

Cruising under the finish line in 1:11.70 for the six furlong distance on the fast main track, the Tony Dutrow trainee was being gently geared down under jockey Stewart Elliott as he beat Amerigo Vespucci by 7-1/2 lengths, with Alpha Mike Foxtrot another 1-3/4 lengths back in third.

LAUREL, MD. 11-01-12---Robert Cole’s Jax and Jill looks to remain unbeaten in Saturday’s $125,000 Smart Halo Stakes at Laurel Park. The 6-furlong test features eight 2-year-old fillies.

Trained by Scott Lake, Jax and Jill has gone unchallenged in four starts, winning by a combined 25-3/4 lengths in victories at Parx Racing, Timonium and a pair of state-bred stakes at Charles Town.

Christina Rodriguez Wins First Career Race

 

LAUREL, MD. 10-31-12---Apprentice jockey Christina Rodriguez won her first career race in Wednesday’s sixth race at Laurel Park.

The 19-year-old was aboard 8-1 shot Over Marketed for trainer Tony Aguirre. They were fourth at the top of the stretch but were able to get to the rail and spurted clear inside the sixteenth pole to win by 1-3/4 lengths in the 5-½ furlong sprint. The Tale of the Cat filly paid $18.40.

Trombetta To Saddle Two Breeders' Cup Starters

LAUREL, MD. 10-31-12---Trainer Mike Trombetta became a major player during the 2006 Triple Crown scene with Laurel Park-based Sweetnorthernsaint, the betting favorite in the Kentucky Derby (G1) and runner-up finisher in the Preakness Stakes (G1). On Saturday afternoon, he fulfills another goal by saddling two runners on the Breeders’ Cup card at Santa Anita Park.
