Severe Weather Forces Cancellation of Thursday Finale

LAUREL, MD – A severe thunderstorm accompanied by heavy lightning rolled through Laurel Park with eight minutes to post, forcing the Maryland Jockey Club to cancel Thursday’s ninth-race finale out of safety concerns for its horses and horsemen.
 
Along with the storm, a tornado warning was issued for northeastern Prince George’s County, which includes the Laurel area.
