$850,000 Winter Carnival Coming to Laurel Park Feb. 18

$300,000 Fritchie (G2) and $250,000 General George (G3) Highlight Six Stakes
Ice Carvings, Winter Kids' Korner & Maryland Jockey Club Tumbler

LAUREL, MD - Laurel Park will offer $850,000 in stakes purses Saturday, Feb. 18 as part of its annual Winter Carnival, an entertaining and unique afternoon of ice carvings, ice bars, drink specials, and other winter-themed activities.
 
The afternoon will be highlighted by the $300,000 Barbara Fritchie Handicap (G2) and $250,000 General George (G3).
 
The 62nd-running of the Fritchie, a seven-furlong event for fillies and mares, has been won in the past by Xtra Heat, Lady Sabelia, Skipat and Tappiano. The 40th running of the General George, for 4-year-olds and up at seven furlongs, has a list of winners that includes Meadow Monster, Affirmed Success, Private Terms and Page McKenney.
 
The other stakes on Winter Carnival Day will be:
The $75,000 Miracle Wood for 3-year-olds at a mile
The $75,000 Wide Country for 3-year-old fillies at seven furlongs
The $75,000 John B. Campbell for 4-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles
The $75,000 Maryland Racing Media for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles
 
Along with the six stakes races, renovated Laurel Park will have an array of winter-themed activities and drink and food specials. There will be ice carvings throughout the track, an ice bar, and an ice wall with more than $2,500 of prizes frozen inside. Fans will get a Maryland Jockey Club Travel Tumbler with the purchase of a program. A winter Kids' Korner will have winter-themed face paintings, snowflake decorations, crafts and an icy photo opportunity with a mitten photo frame.
 
The Terrace Dining Room will feature a $32 buffet from 12-4 p.m. For an additional $12, the buffet will come with unlimited Mimosas and Bloody Marys.

Three Carryovers Friday, Post Time 12:30 p.m.
 
There will be three carryovers when Laurel resumes racing Friday.
 
The Late Pick 5 will have a carryover of $4,703.58. The Super Hi 5 will have a carryover of $2,939.38 while the Rainbow 6 will have a carryover of $2,597.97.
