LAUREL, MD – On Your Left Racing and Daniel Kjorsvik’s Princess Adira, beaten less than a length combined in her first two starts, was a no doubt winner on her third try in Sunday’s seventh race at Laurel Park.

A Virginia-bred daughter of multiple Grade 2 winner Cairo Prince trained by Lacey Gaudet, Princess Adira ($3.80) ran six furlongs in 1:11.91 over a fast main track to capture the $40,000 maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies by 4 ¾ lengths.

“Today just everything came together,” Gaudet said. “It was a little bit of a smaller field, but she was ready. Even watching her come over here, she’s a spunky little filly and she was ready to get over here and get it done.”

Jockey Alex Cintron, aboard for the first time, settled Princess Adira in the clear three wide down the backstretch behind Sudden Brilliance, in front through splits of 23.92 and 48.04 seconds. Princess Adira ranged up on the leader on the far turn, took command once straightened for home and drew off impressively. Sudden Brilliance stayed up for second, with Omni Diva third.

Princess Adira rallied from dead last to be second by three-quarters of a length in her Oct. 4 unveiling at Laurel going six furlongs, then broke outwardly from her far outside post before coming with a five-wide move to fall a neck short of victory Nov. 1. Both races came with apprentice jockey Julio Correa.

“Her first race she had a bad break and came flying. We’ve always known she’s had some class in the morning. Last time, I think he was kind of caught off guard at how fast she broke,” Gaudet said. “She’s just learning more as we go.”

Gaudet hinted she may look at taking the jump to stakes company for Princess Adira’s next start. Laurel hosts the $100,000 Gin Talking for 2-year-old fillies going seven furlongs Dec. 28.

“We’ll see where we go from here. Hopefully if there’s something like a little stake before the end of the year maybe we’ll try that,” Gaudet said. “I think that she’s going to be better as she matures and probably better on the grass. This filly has just got so much potential.”

In Sunday’s other maiden special weight for 2-year-olds, Cheyenne Stables’ first-time starter Decorated ($17) came flying from far back with a steady drive down the center of the stretch to get his nose down on the wire over 6-5 favorite Justwaveandsmile in Race 2. The winning time for six furlongs was 1:11.68.

Notes: Jockey Alex Cintron notched a three-win day Sunday, aboard Takechargmatriarch ($3.80) in Race 4, Princess Adira ($3.80) in Race 7 and Cozy Lover ($4.40) in Race 8.
