HEALTH & SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR PATRONS

We at The Maryland Jockey Club, Inc. are committed to providing a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for all patrons. Please review the following health and safety guidelines before and during your visit to the racetrack.

1. GENERAL SAFETY

  • Follow Staff Instructions: Please comply with all directions from race officials, security, and event staff.

  • Restricted Areas: Do not enter stables, paddocks, track surfaces, or other restricted areas unless you are licensed by the Maryland Racing Commission (MRC).

  • Emergency Exits: Take note of exit routes and emergency assembly points upon arrival.

  • First Aid: Trained Security and/or medical staff are on-site. If you or someone near you needs help, notify the nearest staff member immediately.

2. HEALTH & WELLNESS

  • Alcohol Consumption: Drink responsibly. Intoxicated patrons may be refused service or removed from the premises for their safety and the safety of others.

  • Respiratory & Communicable Illnesses: The Maryland Jockey Club follows CDC health recommendations. Patrons who feel unwell should not attend. Hand sanitizer stations are located throughout the venue.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink fluids regularly, especially in hot weather.

  • Sun Protection: If outdoors, wear hats, sunscreen, and sunglasses to prevent sunburn or heat-related illness.

3. ANIMAL & TRACK SAFETY

  • Respect the Horses: Horses are powerful animals that may become startled. Never attempt to touch, feed, or interfere with them. They may bite!

  • Stay Behind Barriers: Remain behind designated railings and barriers when viewing the track or paddock.

  • Report Hazards: If you notice unsafe behavior, spills, or obstructions, alert staff immediately.

4. CROWD & VENUE SAFETY

  • Supervise Children: Keep children close and do not allow them to climb fences or railings.

  • Personal Belongings: Keep your belongings secure. Unattended bags may be removed for safety reasons.

  • Smoking Policy: Smoke only in designated outdoor areas.

  • Prohibited Items: Weapons, fireworks, drones, and outside alcohol are strictly prohibited. Please see our list of Prohibited items.

5. EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

  • Medical Emergency: Contact a staff member immediately.

  • Evacuation: In the event of an evacuation, follow instructions from staff and proceed calmly to the nearest exit.

  • Severe Weather: If severe weather is expected, announcements will provide guidance on sheltering.
