LAUREL, MD – The Maryland Jockey Club (TMJC) community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of legendary Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, who passed away Sunday at age 89.

Lukas retired from training earlier in the month after suffering from a severe infection. He was hospitalized last week but declined an aggressive treatment plan and returned home to spend his last days with loved ones.

LAUREL, MD – Kilo Road wasn’t exactly pounds the best in today’s featured eighth race, a $48,000 state-bred or -sired allowance for fillies and mares at six furlongs, but she had enough weight behind her late kick to run down pacesetter Great Andrei by a neck.

It was the third win from 15 starts for Kilo Road, a 4-year-old ridden by Daniel Centeno for trainer Hugh McMahon and owner SAB Stable.

LAUREL, MD – Whenigettoheaven successfully defended his title in the Ben’s Cat Stakes at Laurel Park on Saturday when he rallied from just off the pace under jockey J. G. Torrealba to nip favored Determined Kingdom by a half-length.

The Ben’s Cat was one of two $100,000 races restricted to Maryland-bred or -sired and Virginia-bred or -sired performers at six furlongs on turf.

Big Tankness Rolls to Debut Victory

LAUREL, MD – Big Tankness ran to his looks and to his backing when wiring Friday’s seventh race at Laurel Park, a $45,000 maiden special weight for Maryland-bred or -sired performers at six furlongs.

Visual handicappers had a field day as the six horses entered the paddock in all shapes and sizes.

Five-time maiden Falcon Blue, saddled on the walk, seemed fresh and eager.

Second-time starter Decorum grouchily kicked a paddock pillar before heading into his stall.
