LAUREL, MD—The Maryland Jockey Club mourns the passing of legendary Hall of Fame trainer King T Leatherbury, who died at his home Tuesday morning at age 92.

“He’s one of a kind,” said one of his twin sons, Taylor Leatherbury. “There’s never been a man more appropriately named than my father.”

Weather Forces Cancellation of Sunday’s Laurel Program

LAUREL, MD— Due to expected frigid temperatures across the Mid-Atlantic, Laurel Park has canceled Sunday’s live race program.

Live racing will resume at Laurel Park on Thursday, February 12, with the first post at 12:00 pm ET.

Laurel Park’s previously canceled Saturday card will be run in full without a redraw on Thursday, February 12.

Feeling Woozy Changes Tactics in Thursday Feature

LAUREL, MD— Jockey Martin Chuan made a last-minute change before Thursday’s featured eighth race at Laurel Park, a $56,000 allowance for 4-year-olds and up over 1 1/16 miles.

His mount, Feeling Woozy, looked like a one-dimensional front-runner. Heck, in his last three victories, Feeling Woozy led every call.

Chuan can read a Racing Form, and he observed several other horses exhibiting a similar running style.

Weather Forces Cancellation of Saturday’s Laurel Program

Live racing continues Thursday and Friday

LAUREL, MD—Due to frigid temperatures and windy conditions expected to impact the Mid-Atlantic region, Laurel Park has canceled live racing on Saturday, February 7.

Laurel Park and The Maryland Jockey Club OTB Network will remain open for simulcast on Saturday, February 7.

Live racing will be held at Laurel Park on Thursday, February 5, and Friday, February 6. The first post time is 12:00 pm ET.


 

Hollywood Import Takes Top Billing in Spectacular Bid

LAUREL, MD—After Hollywood Import’s first three starts, trainer Gary Capuano felt he had a talented runner. After all, the bay colt rallied from last to win his debut at Delaware Park and made up a lot of ground to finish second in Laurel’s James F. Lewis III Stakes on November 8.

Although Hollywood Import disappointed as the favorite in his third attempt, finishing fourth in a first-level allowance race on November 23, Capuano believed he had observed something significant.

Laurel Park Cancels Remainder of Friday’s Program

UREL, MD—Due to frigid temperatures in the Mid-Atlantic region, Laurel Park canceled the remainder of Friday’s card after the first race.

Weekend Wife ($9.80) captured the opening event for jockey Andres Chavez and trainer Tim Keefe.

Laurel Park has also postponed Saturday and Sunday’s scheduled live racing programs due to the weather conditions.

The Spectacular Bid shares top billing on the ten-race program with the $100,000 Xtra Heat Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs. First post is 12:00 pm ET, and there are two “Value Pick 5 wagers” with a low 12% takeout.
