$100,000 Beyond the Wire Next for Fraudulent Charge

Distances Adjusted for First Two Turf Stakes of 2021 Season
Rainbow 6 Carryover at $10,762 for Friday, March 12 Program

LAUREL, MD – Team Gaudet and Five Hellions Farm’s Fraudulent Charge, a rallying second in back-to-back sprint stakes, appears headed to a third straight showdown with Street Lute in the $100,000 Beyond the Wire March 13 at Laurel Park.

Fraudulent Charge tuned up for the one-mile stakes for 3-year-old fillies with a sharp five-furlong breeze over Laurel’s main track in 1:00 Sunday, the fastest of five horses at the distance. In a separate move, Five Hellions Farm’s multiple stakes-winning stablemate Dontletsweetfoolya went in 1:01.60.

“We usually give them a little bit more time, but there’s a couple of spots coming up,” trainer Lacey Gaudet said. “They came out of their races good, so we just went ahead and breezed them today. They both went well.”

By Will Take Charge, the champion 3-year-old male of 2013, Fraudulent Charge was beaten a nose by Street Lute in the Dec. 26 Gin Talking to end her 2-year-old season and a length in the Feb. 20 Wide Country to open her sophomore campaign. Both races are run at seven furlongs.

“Fraudulent Charge went very, very well, so we’ll definitely move forward and go in the Beyond the Wire with her as long as she comes out of her work well and gets a good post position,” Gaudet said. “I think everything probably has to fall in line for her. We’ve always given her more time between races, but that’s why I think we can get her back over there quicker this time.”

Lucky 7 Stables’ Street Lute will enter the Beyond the Wire having won six stakes including five in a row, all between 5 ½ and seven furlongs. Among other fillies being pointed to the race are Buckey’s Charm, runner-up in the 1 1/16-mile Anne Arundel County and fourth in the Wide Country; Journeytothemoon, a one-mile Laurel allowance winner Jan. 29; Littlestitious, winner of the 2020 My Trusty Cat at Delta Downs and most recently fourth in the Rachel Alexandra (G2) Feb. 13 at Fair Grounds; and the Linda Rice-trained pair of Hybrid Eclipse and Wide Country show finisher Salt Plage.

Dontletsweetfoolya’s work was the second-fastest on the day. The 3-year-old daughter of Grade 1 winner Stay Thirsty had her five-race win streak snapped when seventh in the Runhappy Barbara Fritchie (G3) Feb. 20 at Laurel.

The connections are looking at the six-furlong Correction March 13 at Aqueduct for Dontletsweetfoolya, who made her sophomore debut in the Fritchie after winning the Primonetta and Willa On the Move at Laurel to cap her juvenile campaign.

“We’ll probably enter and see how it comes out. ‘Sweetie’ is a little tougher to find a spot for right now, especially after the way she ran last time,” Gaudet said. “We’re a little hesitant as to what we do next and what’s the right move. We’re just going to cross it out. There were a lot of things going against her that weekend, so we’re just going to draw a line through it and go on to the next spot.”

Distances Adjusted for First Two Turf Stakes of 2021 Season

Required maintenance of Laurel’s world-class turf course has necessitated adjusting the distances for the first two scheduled grass stakes of the season.

The $100,000 Henry S. Clark for 3-year-olds and up and $100,000 Dahlia for fillies and mares 3 and older will each be contested at 1 1/16 miles. Both stakes were originally scheduled for one mile.

Topping the Saturday, April 17 stakes program are the $125,000 Federico Tesio for 3-year-olds and $125,000 Weber City Miss for 3-year-old fillies. Once again, the Tesio will serve as a ‘Win and In’ qualifier for Triple Crown-nominated horses to the 146th Preakness Stakes (G1) May 15 at Pimlico Race Course, and the Weber City is a ‘Win and In’ event for the Black-Eyed Susan (G2) on Preakness weekend.

Also on the April 17 card are the $100,000 Frank Y. Whiteley for 3-year-olds and up sprinting seven furlongs and $100,000 King T. Leatherbury, 5 ½-furlong turf dash for 3-year-olds and up.

Nominations for all seven stakes close Saturday, April 3.
