Video: Last Maryland-bred and Tesio Victor to Win Middle Jewel of Triple Crown

LAUREL, MD - It’s been nearly a half century since the last Maryland-bred horse won the Preakness Stakes (G1).

Deputed Testamony, also the last Federico Tesio winner to win the Preakness, was Maryland through and through - Maryland-bred, Maryland-owned, Maryland-trained and Maryland-ridden. Under a ground-saving trip over a sloppy track, Deputed Testamony won the 1983 Preakness by 2 ¾ lengths over Desert Wine and returned $31.

Maryland Jockey Club host and analyst Naomi Tukker recently spent time with trainer Bill Boniface and jockey Donnie Miller Jr. to reminisce about the ’83 Preakness.
