Two Each Scheduled for Dirt & Turf, Rainbow 6 & Hi5 Carryovers
Jockey Jaime Rodriguez Registers Friday Hat Trick, Ruiz Doubles

LAUREL, MD – Four consecutive allowances, two each scheduled for the turf and dirt, and carryovers in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 and $1 Jackpot Super High Five highlight Saturday’s 10-race program at Laurel Park.

First race post time is 12:25 p.m.

Race 6 is an entry-level allowance for fillies and mares 3 and up scheduled for one mile over the Kelso turf course that drew an overflow field of 14 including She’sarollingstone for main track only. Tequilera adds blinkers for trainer Michael Matz after fading to sixth in a similar spot going 1 1/16 miles May 20 at Pimlico. Nicolar won at the course and distance in her 2022 finale and has been a closing fourth in two tries this year. Stakes-placed Thisnameisokay exits back-to-back thirds in Monmouth Park turf allowances.

New York Panther takes the big step up off two straight victories in Race 7, an open one-mile allowance for 3-year-olds and up on the main track. The 3-year-old Freud gelding was claimed out of his maiden triumph May 18 and returned with a front-running 4 ½-length claiming victory over his elders June 3, both going 1 1/16 miles at Pimlico. The 5-2 program favorite is Brilliant Ice, placed in six of his last eight starts with successive runner-up finishes sprinting six furlongs.

Saturday’s feature comes in Race 8, a second-level optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up scheduled for six furlongs on the Fort Marcy turf course. Rock the Boat stretches out off his 5 ¾-length allowance win going five furlongs May 20 at Pimlico, his first start in 4 ½ months. Doctor Jeff has run third in two straight sprints after being moved to the turf by Maryland’s leading trainer, Brittany Russell. Street Copper, respectively second and third by less than a length combined in the last two editions of the 1 1/8-mile Maryland Million Turf, is entered to make his 8-year-old debut.

Race 9 is an optional claiming allowance for 3-year-olds and up going about 1 1/16 miles led by 7-5 program favorite Eldest Son. The 3-year-old Into Mischief gelding won his season debut March 11 for new trainer Jamie Ness, was fourth by two lengths to Perform in the 1 1/8-mile Federico Tesio April 15, and most recently third behind next out winners It’s Viper and Adero in a 1 1/16-mile optional claimer May 14 at Pimlico.

Both Eldest Son and stablemate Kerness, who had a three-race win streak snapped in the April 23 New York Stallion, are entered for a $62,500 tag. In for $50,000 is Triple Crown-nominated B West, third in the Jan. 21 Spectacular Bid at Laurel, racing first off the claim for trainer Russell.

All four races are part of the Rainbow 6 sequence, which spans Races 5-10 and begins with a carryover of $6,007.99 from Friday when multiple tickets each returned $477.74.

The Jackpot Super High Five (Race 6) will start with a carryover of $5,348.77.

Notes: Friday’s card began with a dead heat for first in the opener between Sigmund ($5.40) and Sage Runner ($4) … Sigmund was the first of three winners for jockey Jaime Rodriguez, followed by Boss Logic ($4) in Race 4 and Respectfully ($4.60) in Race 6, both trained by Jamie Ness … Jorge Ruiz rode back-to-back winners with Thegirlfromireland ($6) in Race 7 and Ruthanne ($9.40) in Race 8 … Hazelmoor Beach ($8.40) and jockey Jeremias Castro held off a late run from favored Tanka Tough through the stretch for a half-length victory in Friday’s Race 3, a maiden claiming event featuring amateur riders. The winning time was 1:38.98 for one mile over a Kelso turf course rated good.
