Friday's Stronach 5 Yields Multiple Payoffs of $12,378

LAUREL, MD – The national weekly Stronach 5 wager produced 10 winning tickets worth $12,378.30 each following Friday’s cross-country sequence.

A total of $138,309.19 was put into the popular multi-race, multi-track wager that features an industry-low 12 percent takeout. Friday’s sequence opened with three consecutive turf races on both coasts followed by a pair of West Coast main track races.

Friday’s Stronach 5 kicked off at Pimlico Race Course when four-time stakes-placed Sky’s Not Falling ($9.80) cruised past pacesetting Forced in mid-stretch and edged clear in the Race 9 finale, a five-furlong turf sprint allowance. The second leg saw 17-1 long shot Odalea ($37.40) hold off a furious late bid up the rail from even-money favorite Uptown Queen and spring the upset in Gulfstream Park’s Race 9, a 7 ½-furlong grass dash for maiden fillies and mares.

The action switched to California for the final third of the Stronach 5, with Vegas Palm ($7.80) sweeping by even-money favorite Acai inside the eighth pole and going away to capture the third leg, a 6 ½-furlong turf optional claimer in Race 3 at Santa Anita. Leg four saw 3-year-old gelding Mattawa N That ($5), favored at 3-2 for owner-trainer Blaine Wright, lead all the way to break his maiden in Race 3 at Golden Gate Fields.

The Stronach 5 concluded with Race 4 at Santa Anita, a maiden event for 3-year-olds sprinting six furlongs and won in front-running fashion from the far outside by Winhappy ($6.60), sent off as the 2-1 favorite.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.

The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.
