Laurel Cancels Friday’s Opening Day Card Due To Water Main Break

Simulcasting Available at Pimlico and Horseshoe Casino

LAUREL, MD., 07/03/15 – Laurel Park was forced to cancel its opening-day summer program Friday due to a water main break in Anne Arundel County affecting 40,000 homes and businesses.

The county said repairs would take at least 12 hours.

With no running water, Laurel will be closed for live racing and simulcast wagering. Simulcast wagering will be available at Pimlico and the Horseshoe Casino.

“Obviously, we’re extremely disappointed that we won’t be able to run our opening day program and our first twilight program of the summer,” said Maryland Jockey Club President and General Manager Sal Sinatra. “We were looking forward to a big day, a great crowd, and the start of an exciting summer program, but our first priority is the safety and health of our horses and our fans.”

“Right now, we’re cautiously optimistic that we will be able to run our Saturday and Sunday programs.”

Post time Saturday is 1:30 p.m.
