Multiple Stakes Winner Limited View Takes Saturday Feature

4-Year-Old Filly Gives Jockey Boyce 800th Career Victory

LAUREL, MD – Limited View, who snapped a 10-race losing streak in her previous start, continued to run to her multiple stakes-winning form with a front-running four-length triumph in Saturday’s featured eighth race at Laurel Park.

Owned by Fred Wasserloos, George Greenwalt and trainer John Salzman Jr., Limited  View ($11.80) went seven furlongs in 1:22.09 over a fast main track to capture the third-level optional claiming allowance and give jockey Forest Boyce, aboard for the first time, her 800th career win.

“I’ve been dying to ride her,” Boyce said. “I’ve asked him for a couple years now to ride her … so I’ll take the opportunity when I can get it. I’m very happy to get my 800th for John. He’s given me a lot of support over the years.”

Morning-line favorite and fellow stakes winner My Star Potential was scratched in the paddock, leaving Limited View as the controlling speed. The 4-year-old Maryland-bred filly went the opening quarter in 23.84 seconds pressed to her inside by Conjecture, then began to gain separation after a half in 46.70. She and Boyce continued to pull away from their rivals around the turn, going six furlongs in 1:09.85 and powering through the stretch to a convincing victory.

It was the seventh win from 19 career starts for Limited View, winner of the Maryland Million Lassie and Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship at 2 and Marshua Stakes to open her 3-year-old season in January 2018. Since then, the temperamental daughter of Freedom Child was winless in 10 tries, placing in a pair of stakes, before breaking through with a starter optional triumph Nov. 15 – all at Laurel.

“I’m just happy to be back in the winner’s circle with her. Forest rode her perfect,” Salzman said. “You just can’t panic with her. You have to take your time with her and if he’s going to win, she’ll get you there. You don’t have to do much with her. I’m excited; it was great.

“I hate to see [My Star Potential] get scratched, but that made us the lone speed,” he added. “I think she will go a mile; she just has her quirks. She knows where the wire is; she’ll just pull herself up. The one time I did run her a mile she should have won, she just pulled herself up. She’s just been a hard horse to train all along, but she’s doing all the right things now.”

Limited View, purchased as a yearling by Salzman for $5,200, now has banked $326,301 in career purses. Conjecture held on to be second while Lady Vicki came on to edge Money Fromheaven by a nose for third.

Notes: Apprentice jockey Avery Whisman rode back-to-back winners aboard Talented Dr. B ($7.80) in Race 3 and Tappahannock ($12.20) in Race 4 … There will be carryovers of $7,609.51 in the 50-cent Late Pick 5 (Races 5-9) and $958.97 in the 20-cent Rainbow 6 (Races 4-9) for Sunday’s card.
