Souper Lucky Super In Saturday Feature

LAUREL, MD. 01-10-15---Live Oak Plantation’s Souper Lucky rallied off the pace to take today’s $50,000 allowance feature at Laurel Park, an effort that will set up a stakes appearance on Presidents’ Day weekend.

Sent to post as the 2-1 favorite under Julian Pimentel for trainer Mike Trombetta, Souper Lucky took the widest way around Laurel, racing outside horses down the backstretch and around the turn and bidding for the lead as the horses straightened for home in the 1-1/16th mile test.  He won by 1-1/2 lengths over pacesetter A. P. Cino, with Concealed Identity taking third.

“I had a really good trip,” Pimentel said. “I spoke to Mike this morning and he really liked him in this spot. He told me to get him to relax and make one big run. He is a very nice horse. Mike thinks he has a bright future.”

Souper Lucky, a son of Giant’s Causeway, covered the distance in 1:43.66 and paid $6.60. The 4-year-old entered the Trombetta barn last summer and has now won four of six starts for his present connections.

Trombetta said he would look at both the $100,000 John B. Campbell Handicap at 1-1/8 miles on February 14 and the $250,000 General George Handicap at 7-furlongs on February 16.
