Ten Fillies Line Up For Saturday's Gin Talking Stakes

LAUREL, MD. 11-23-12---The Dutrow brothers grew up in Maryland and Saturday afternoon Tony and Rick will ship the likely favorites into Laurel Park for the $100,000 Gin Talking Stakes. The 7-furlong test drew ten 2-year-old fillies.

Tony Dutrow sends Disco Barbie, the 5-2 morning line favorite, down to central Maryland from Parx Racing.  The daughter of Pure Prize has shown a strong finishing punch in all three of her starts including a maiden win and a third place finish in the Xtra Heat Stakes at Delaware Park in which she was boxed out but then five wide and gaining at the finish. Sheldon Russell has the riding assignment.

Rick Dutrow counters with Thicker Than Water (3-1) from his powerful Aqueduct barn. The Speightstown filly was a dominant maiden winner at Belmont Park in her last start and has worked three times since the victory. Erick Rodriguez will be aboard for the first time.

Ek Haseena (7-2) was 64-1 when she brushed with and was bumped by the winner to narrowly miss by a nose in the Smart Halo Stakes earlier this month. Frannie Campitelli trains the Songandaprayer filly, who is 1-of-4 lifetime. Kevin Navarro has the mount for the second consecutive race.

“We don’t know why it took her so long to run well,” Campitelli said. “I can’t say that effort was a complete shock. I always thought she was capable. We had trouble separating her and Mystic Love (recent Selima Stakes winner) when they trained together. Hopefully she’ll come back and have another big effort.”

Flattering Bea (10-1) is the only stakes winner in the field, capturing the Ms Shenandoah Stakes at Charles Town in September. The Crystal Pickett trainee bobbled at the start in the Smart Halo before rallying for a fourth place finish.  Alberto Delgado has riding assignment on the daughter of Flatter.

Circleofinfluence (12-1) comes into the Gin Talking off a driving victory here Oct. 12 on the grass at 5-1/2 furlongs. Ignacio Correas trains the Sagamore Farm-based filly. Abel Castellano is her rider.

“I brought her down here to breeze earlier this month (Nov. 10) and she seemed to like it,” Correas said. “The added distance certainly should be to her liking.”

Completing the field will be She’s All Scat (8-1), Joy (10-1), Dappled Image (15-1), Jubileebra (15-1) and Lea’s Exchange (30-1).
