Stronach 5 Carryover of $96,906 for Friday, Sept. 13

LAUREL, MD – With no winning ticket in Friday’s Stronach 5, the popular wager with an industry-low 12-percent takeout will have a carryover of $96,906.44 on Friday, Sept. 13.

The carryover occurred when the 60-1 longshot Channeledslongshot won Gulfstream Park’s ninth race and the final leg of the Stronach 5 sequence and returned $141.40.

The sequence kicked off with Stroll Smokin ($11.20) winning Laurel Park’s eighth race. The entry of Midship Lady/More Or Less ($4.40) won the fourth leg at Laurel.

LAUREL, MD – Benny Havens got Laurel Park’s fall meet off to a rousing start, swinging to the lead on the far turn and fending off Mister Frank’s Way the length of the stretch to give trainer Anthony Aguirre Jr. his first career win in the first race on Friday’s opening day program.

The Stronach 5 Returns

Four on the Turf, $100,000 Guaranteed Pool

LAUREL, MD – The Stronach 5, featuring a $100,000 guaranteed pool and industry-low 12-percent takeout, returns Friday with races from Laurel Park, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields.

The sequence kicks off at 5:12 p.m. with a field of 10 Maryland-bred or Maryland-sired allowance runners going six furlongs at Laurel. The remaining four races of the Stronach 5 are all scheduled on the turf.

Gonzalez, 42, enters Sunday’s closing day program with a 22-14 advantage over runner-up Mike Trombetta. It will be the 10th career title for Gonzalez, Maryland’s overall leading trainer in 2017 and 2018.
