Three Colts Have Chance to Make ‘Magic’ in Preakness 148

Mage, Blazing Sevens, Perform All Sons of Good Magic

LAUREL, MD -- There is one horse that stands above all the others in Saturday’s 148th running of the Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico Race Course.

Of course, the easiest of answers is Mage, the Kentucky Derby(G1) winner, who is the 8-5 morning-line favorite in the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown.

First Mission Declared from Preakness 148

LAUREL, MD - First Mission, Keeneland’s Grade 3 Stonestreet Lexington winner, was declared out of Saturday’s 148th Preakness Stakes (G1) early Friday morning with an unspecified left hind ankle issue, owner Godolphin announced.

First Mission, who is trained by Brad Cox, was the second choice in the morning line for the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown.

Arabian Lion Heavily Favored for Sir Barton

LAUREL, MD – For Zedan Racing’s Arabian Lion, the $100,000 Sir Barton Stakes on Saturday is a chance to prove that he is a player to be reckoned with in stakes competition.

After a frustrating second in the April 15 Lexington (G3) at Keeneland, Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert is trying him again at 1 1/16 miles in the 25th running of the Sir Barton sponsored by Brandon and Diannah Perry to benefit the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. He is the 2-5 morning-line favorite in the field of six.

After Eight After Victory in $100,000 Old Hilltop

LAUREL, MD - From the start, trainer Arnaud Delacour thought good things were ahead for a filly named After Eight.

“I have always been very high on her,” Delacour said.

It’s just that, initially, he didn’t anticipate After Eight would become a player on the grass.

That’s the game plan for Friday when the lightly raced daughter of Into Mischief runs in the 51st running of the one mile $100,000 Hilltop Stakes on the grass at Pimlico Race Course.

Hall of Fame Jockey McHargue Rode Colt to Biggest Upset in Preakness History

LAUREL, MD – Unlike its Triple Crown counterparts, which each boast record win prices well into triple digits, the Preakness Stakes (G1) has historically been a race run true to form. In its first 147 years, including being split into two divisions in 1918, the Preakness has been won 73 times by favorites.
